Picking your brain...
What is your perspective on a woman's role in the Modern day church... and what is that based on? Scripture or changing societal norms?
Interesting discussion last night and I am interested to see what you all think.

I won't pretend to have great knowledge of the subject as it relates to the Bible, other than I believe the Bible was obviously written during a patriarchal society and that plays heavily on what is written about the woman's role in church.
The woman's role in the church has to mold with the changes/views of women in society, otherwise, the true importance and message of the Bible will fall on deaf ears for those who turn away from the church's lack of change.
There are very powerful women in the Bible just as there are very powerful, Christian women today.
Make sense or just another woman's ramble? :)

I tend to base my thoughts more on what I've learned from scripture. I beleive that women should use their gifts in the church - encouragement, helps, etc. I also beleive that the bible clearly instructs that women should not lead men, so if women are going to lead bible studies, etc., it should be just women or children they are leading, not men.

I'm with Jennboree on this one.
I'm a big believer in gender equality, and I think women make very good leaders - both in society, government and religion.
I believe that gender roles are a social construction. God created us all, and loves us all unconditionally. Why, then, would he have a problem with someone who stood up and preached His word simply because it was a woman?
If a woman feels like she is called to the church to preach the word of God, power to her.
I do not believe a woman’s role should be passive – but equal. I am a member of a church where women can be ministers, and grew up knowing that I could be a religious leader if so moved. This had a very positive impact on me as a child. As a girl. As a woman, today.
Anyway, just my thoughts.
